Daniel Zeleniouk
Grade 11 Age 16

Entering the Vancouver Waldorf School, a person immediately senses a focused energy. The energy I receive - free of agitation, worries, and stress - remains with me for the whole day. The student body is composed of well-rounded, bright, and cultured students who share a passion to learn, explore and question. There are three themes that are evident in every classroom: creativity, participation and clear thinking. The students work together with the teachers to express creativity through their art pieces, drama productions, dance recitals, and musical orchestras. The Waldorf School demonstrates that with a creative mind, a student can always find a solution to any problem, be it in school, at home, or in the real world.

Clarity of thought is what the school endorses. With the help of teachers and parents the students at the Waldorf School show clarity through their speech, thought and expression. The teachers at the school are not only focused on expanding the intellectual areas of a child's mind, but to show them how to feel with their heart, and to spread that feeling around.

Sophia Romeder
Grade 4 Age 10

My name is Sophia Romeder. I am nine years old. The thing that I think really stands out about the Vancouver Waldorf School is that you get to be free in your work, creative, have fun, play games, and learn at the same time. You get to make your textbook full of colour and hard work and at the end of the year you get to open it again and it all bursts out like a present. There are trees and flowers it's like you're in a wonderland when you enter the playing yard. When it is winter we never feel cold because we make hats, shoes, stuffed toys, pyjamas and lots more in handwork. We knit, sew, crochet, pearl, do woodworking and many other things. We don't use crayons. We have beautiful beeswax crayons and pencil crayons that are full of the rainbow. There is a type of dance we do called Eurythmy. It's like waters flowing down the river. We plant vegetables and we take turns doing the compost. The nice thing is when you meet your grade one teacher he or she teaches you until grade eight so you get to know your teacher pretty well.

Lydia Bellis
Grade 7 Age 13

My name is Lydia Bellis and I am currently in the sixth grade at the Vancouver Waldorf School. One of the things I like most about my school is that it is small. Everyone knows almost every one else. Also, I really like all the different types of art that we get to do, like painting and drawing. We also take subjects such as woodwork and handwork. I like to make things like that. I think that if I changed schools these are not things that I would be able to do.

My favourite two projects that I have made are my push-toy “Marlin”, and my table hockey set. The teacher that I made “Marlin” with was Ms. McCrone but the teacher that I made my table hockey set with was Mr. Katz. He was my favourite teacher because he was really cool and he never yelled at us.

My favourite school event that I have been to was probably the “Greek Games”. Every year the grade five class goes to the Greek Games and competes in a small version of an ancient Greek Olympics. This is a great example of what makes my school special. It's a great place.
