VWS Parent Council

Founded in 2004, the Vancouver Waldorf School Parent Council works collaboratively with parents, faculty and administration in many areas of school life and offers a place of initiative and social renewal.
We are a group of parents who bring our creative minds, open hearts and working hands together in service to support and connect the parent body to the rest of the school. In this way, we help to create the social fabric that defines us as a community, reflecting the principles of Waldorf education in our striving.
We apply for and manage the resources of a Government Grant supporting activities and initiatives such as Eurythmy performances, professional development for teachers and school trips as well as the purchase of items including high school sports uniforms and camping equipment. We have managed events such as the Christmas Fair and community dances and participate in support of plays, concerts and graduations.
We also laugh a lot. Rudolf Steiner said ‘humor has unlimited importance’ – in particular when one can laugh at oneself. We took that advice literally and begun a tradition that has continued to this day; we spend an inordinate amount of time laughing. And, we must be doing very important work because the laughter is generally at the expense of ourselves.
The Parent Council is composed of willing and able parent volunteers. Meetings occur monthly and regular communication occurs as needed via email, phone or in person.

The more you think of taking part, of interesting yourselves in what happens in the Waldorf School, the better the Faculty will succeed in working in unity with you for the betterment and blessing of your children, and thus for the whole of future humanity.
