Message from VWS Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, February 15 (our regularly scheduled meeting on February 8 was cancelled because of weather concerns). At the meeting Susan Connon-Wilby and Malcolm Nash gave their management reports. In brief, Susan reported that we continue to exceed our expectations based on our budget, and a summary of financial results for the quarter ended December 31, 2016 will be circulated soon. Malcolm reported that our current expectation is that virtually all of our teachers will be returning to the VWS for the 2017/2018 school year, and continuing progress is being made in filling the few open positions. The Board believes things are coming quite nicely into shape and we are proud of the progress made. We owe our exceptional teachers and administrative team a great deal of gratitude for what they have accomplished, and we also thank you all for your contributions to the VWS.
We then moved on to the two substantive matters of business: following up on our efforts at our January Board meeting by finalizing the job description for the Community & Resource Development Manager, and continuing our review of the salary structure at the ECE. We are happy to report that the C&RD Manager job description was approved and we expect to be posting the position within the week. We also walked through the significant work done to date regarding the ECE salaries to ensure they are fair and competitive, and made some suggestions on next steps. The ECE plays a unique role at the VWS, and in addition to ensuring Grade 1 readiness a vibrant ECE is vital to the VWS’s healthy long term growth. We believe this portion of our review of salaries at the VWS will be completed shortly.
