VWSS Board of Trustees – September Update

Message from VWS Board of Trustees

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new school year! On Wednesday night the Board of Trustees held a joint meeting with the College of Teachers to discuss the VWS Strategic Plan. Rachel Garratt on behalf of the Strategic Planning and Visioning Committee updated us on the status of the project, and we had a good group discussion on how to best continue to push it forward. Both the Board and the College reconfirmed their positions that the Strategic Planning exercise is an important component of the continuing development of our School, and we all are committed to progressing it.

The Strategic Plan discussion took up the majority of the meeting and was the primary substantive piece of business. Other matters discussed were the status of the hiring of a new Community & Resource Development Manager (more information to come) and planning for the upcoming Annual General Meeting to be held on October 25th. We approved revised versions of the VWSS Constitution and By-Laws, and these will be put before the Members for approval at the AGM. Please mark your calendar.

On another note, those of you with children at the Grade School have probably noticed our refreshed playground area. This was a parent-led initiative and is another example of individual community members taking the initiative to make our School a better place. Thank you to the Playground Committee for undertaking the work, and thank you to Parent Council for providing the financing (with the help of some individual donors, who we also thank!). This was not an inexpensive project and it is important to note a significant portion of the funding was generated from the Gift Card Program (another parent-led initiative). The playground update is a tangible example of what the Gift Card Program can do for the VWS. The more people who participate the more of these kind of projects we can fund, and so I would like to encourage everyone to take part in the Program – it costs you absolutely nothing and could not be easier to do. For further information please go to http://www.vws.ca/giving/other-ways-of-giving/, or contact Rachel Garratt, the coordinator of the Program, at vwsgiftcard@vws.ca.

Here’s to another great year at the Vancouver Waldorf School.
