Waldorf Student Exchange
Waldorf education is a global phenomenon with high schools in many countries across all continents. This fact allows the Vancouver Waldorf High School to offer an international Waldorf Student Exchange program for students in Grades 10 and 11.
In addition to providing an excellent opportunity to strengthen a student’s foreign language skills, exposure to a different culture is invaluable for adolescents. An exchange allows a student the opportunity to cultivate new levels of tolerance and understanding and the courage to work through what may be a difficult situation but in a safe context. Students return with a broader view of the world and their lives and a deeper appreciation of home and family. Our graduates reflect on this enriching program with gratitude and pride.
Our students have completed exchanges to other Waldorf schools in England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Brazil, and Australia in recent years. Students from these countries have attended the Vancouver Waldorf School in return. Participants from each country experience school and family environments that reflect Waldorf values and educational goals.
Students pay tuition for a full year at their home school in the Waldorf Student Exchange program and are exempt from paying tuition at the exchange school.
International Homestay Program
Our popular Waldorf Student Exchange Program often has had many more inquiries from abroad than we are able to fill. As a result, we offer fellow Waldorf students the chance to gain many of the experiences of exchange by boarding with a host family and registering as a student in our International Homestay Program.
Our International Homestay Program makes it possible for students from anywhere in the world the opportunity to experience life with a Canadian family while attending our high school.
Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities worldwide, is considered one of the best places to live, and is a well-known multicultural centre with art galleries, museums and theatres. The temperate climate provides year-round access to activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, sailing and kayaking – a true paradise for outdoor lovers.
Our high school has gained a global reputation for excellence in Waldorf Education. The International Homestay Program enriches our entire school community while offering a safe and supportive setting for international students to learn about Canadian culture, strengthen their English language skills, and develop lifelong friendships.
When placing international students, we work closely with families to ensure their comfort, safety, and security. Every effort is made to match students’ interests and needs with those of their host families. Host families are expected to treat students like extended family members, include them in family activities, and spend quality time.
Apply to become a host by completing this application and submitting it to Carman at email@example.com.

I was really excited to see a new part of the world. For me, Vancouver is the right place for an exchange because the city is amazing and I can go swimming and snowboarding. I think if you have the chance to go for an exchange, do it. It is the best experience in your life. If you are in the right place you can make friendships forever!!
