Important Return to School Update #3
Dear VWS Families,
On behalf of the VWS Faculty, Staff, and Board of Trustees, we are pleased to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year.
We are working hard to plan a robust return to school in September while being mindful of the need to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19. Along with important information that will assist you in your preparations for the coming school year, details about how we are reconfiguring buildings, routines, cleaning and staffing with the intention to safely allow students on campus five days each week are included in this Orientation Package. Please read through the following pages carefully, and contact us if you have any questions.
As we look ahead, we encourage our community to:
- Practice patience, this is new for all of us
- Follow health department and provincial guidance
- Refrain from judgement of others’ decisions or situations
- Consider how our personal choices may open up risk and impact others more than usual
- Share when things aren’t working and ask for support if needed
We hope to see many of you at the virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, August 26 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. If you haven’t yet, please register at Town Hall Registration Link. You will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join the webinar. We look forward to connecting virtually and welcome your questions, concerns, and input which you may submit ahead of time here Town Hall Submit Questions.
We would like to welcome several new faculty members: Helena Trainer is our new Grade 1 teacher, and Simon Briault has stepped into the Grade 7 position. Bruno Amadio is taking over the Movement (PE) classes from Tibor, and Vanessa Faryan will be teaching Circus in the upper grades. David Lalanne is coming to us from Winnipeg to teach French to Grades 1-6, and Michele McCormick will join three other teachers to teach Handwork in the Grade School. Also newly confirmed in their roles, but not new to us, are Sandra Valle as Grade 1 Education Assistant; Nicole Combe as HS Math & Science; Chris Henley as Grade 1 Assistant, Kindergarten Aftercare, and Gardening; Bettina Hillaby as Handwork Assistant; Christina Price as Tutor & Mentor; Anika Chen as Handwork; and Lani Steed as Movement in Grades 1-6. The Learning Group requirements from the Ministry of Education has required that we get very creative with our faculty, and we are so grateful to have such a wealth of experience to draw from.
Finally, we would like to thank you for your support, patience and care as we navigated changes over the final few months of our 2019-2020 school year. Our resilience as educators, parents, students and administration was challenged to grow beyond our expectations and we are grateful for your commitment and perseverance.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, welcome back!
