Help to co-create a VWS Indigenous Council

Indigenous families, and the parents and guardians of Indigenous students, including former students, alumni and members of the wider VWS community, are warmly invited to an informal weekend gathering in October to meet, connect, and discuss the formation of an Indigenous Council at the Vancouver Waldorf School. This gathering is the first of its’ kind at the VWS and is specifically for Indigenous families, including non-Indigenous parents and guardians of Indigenous children.

The Council is being formed in support of the Indigenization of the VWS and the implementation of the new Ministry of Education curriculum requirements, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

At this initial gathering, participants will have the chance to share experiences and stories, get creative about what the Indigenous Council will look like, and decide upon the next steps. Everyone in the VWS community is kindly requested and encouraged to help support this special gathering by spreading the word and reaching out to old classmates and extended family and guardians of old classmates to let them know about the formation of an Indigenous Council and this event.

Mary Henley, Community and Resource Development Manager, will co-host the gathering with Jennifer Williams and Merrill Bullied, parents of Raven in Grade 3 and Nicodemus Redcloud in Kindergarten. Their Nation is Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and Jennifer is a Board Trustee. Children of all ages are welcome, and refreshments will be provided. Please email or call 778-863-6279 for more information.

Please complete this poll by October 17 to let us know what time and date work best for you
