Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 18th

The Vancouver Waldorf School’s
47th Annual Children’s Christmas Fair!

This October has arrived with its splendorous colours and brisk reminders that the winter season is ahead. It may seem early but, here at the Vancouver Waldorf School, October also marks the official beginning of the Christmas Fair season!

The VWS Children’s Christmas Fair is our largest school event where we come together and bring the magic and wonder of the winter season to life. This is the day that children will dreamily remember long after they have grown up, and one that has inspired many families to enrol in our school and join our community. Most Fairs are traditional fundraisers or markets, however, at the VWS we determined, many years ago, that our Fair would be an extension of our belief in community.

As the Shepherds Play is a gift from our faculty, and the Christmas Concert is a gift from our students, the Christmas Fair is a gift from our families to our children and community.

It is also a very large undertaking and its success depends on the generous gifts of time and energy of parents, staff and faculty. In fact, it is the one annual event where 100% volunteer participation is required from the parent body. Opportunities for involvement include coordinating specific activities, preparing speciality foods, advertising the event in your neighbourhood, setting up the school and grounds prior to the Fair, participating in shift-work and helping clean up after the Fair is over. Individual Coordinators have been solicited to organize specific areas, including food venues, shopping areas and craft-making activities, and more.

More event coordinators are still required, so if you are called to participate in one of these important roles, please let us know:

  • Woodland Pond
  • Younger Children’s Activities
  • Cookie House
  • Crystal Cave
  • Speciality Foods

To that end, please watch your Weekly Current and your inbox where news and requests will arrive from your Class Reps and the volunteer team that has stepped forward to form the 2017 Christmas Fair Committee.

We will once again be hosting the popular adult only Friday Night Marketplace for the VWS community, family and friends, from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm on Friday, November 17th. This is your chance to be first in line to browse and do your Christmas shopping, free from the curious eyes of little ones! Our Marketplace overflows with speciality crafts, Waldorf-inspired toys and books, and other unique goods, and draws people back year after year for its wonderful selection and quality. For those unable to come Friday night and for all the younger ones, don’t despair – there will still be plenty of beautiful items left to peruse and purchase on Saturday.

The Christmas Fair could not operate without the generous support of volunteer parents like you. We need your help to make this a memorable and successful Fair for our community and our children. Thank you in advance.
