VWS Alumni Corner Interview with Ani Trevillion, Class of 2008VWS: Tell me about your work and education after graduating from the VWS (post-secondary schooling, travel, work experience, family, etc… )
AT: In the years since graduating, I’ve split my time pretty evenly between furthering my education and travelling to some pretty neat destinations. I completed a BA in English with a Minor in Psychology at UBC and went on to get an Associates Certificate in Technical Writing from BCIT. I have been fortunate enough to have spent some time adventuring in Europe, Southeast Asia, as well as Central and South America.
VWS: What kind of work/study are you involved in now?
AT: I am now about to take my career in a completely different direction and train to become a Registered Massage Therapist.
VWS: What advice would you give to this year’s graduates?
AT: 1) If you are planning on attending a post-secondary institution, the Grade Twelve Project really gives you a leg up on first-year paper writing. 2) Appreciate the small, close community you have right now because you will really have to hunt and work to create those in the future.
VWS: What are your fondest memories of your time at the VWS?
AT: There is a lot I miss about Waldorf. It really is one of the only times in your life that you get to try so many awesome activities all at once: theatre, music, art and team sports and all while learning the subjects needed for post-secondary school (or just life); Math, Science, English etc. I feel really lucky that I got to try out so many different artistic and academic mediums while in school. There are things that I excelled at that I may never have considered trying had I attended another school.
VWS: How did Waldorf education affect your life, and your choice of career?
AT: The fall trips gave me a huge appreciation of the outdoors and the skills to take on more challenging overnight hikes. This has helped me with a lot of the trips that I have taken and given me some of my most treasured memories. I would say Waldorf made me appreciate and want to study so many different subjects. Although at times this has made it hard to decide on just one major, this has also given me the conviction to pursue a career path with a healthy work/life balance, that provides time for me to nourish all of my passions.
