VWS School Closure, Effective March 16

In consideration of the current COVID-19 situation, we have decided to close the school, effective Monday, March 16th. This decision was made by the Management Team, in consultation with the Ministry of Education, and was made primarily to respond to the situation in a way that is socially responsible. While we understand that the school closure may cause disruption to your family, we trust that you will appreciate that it was made in order to support the well-being of everyone in our community. At present, we are planning to reopen after Spring Break as scheduled, on April 6th. We will continue to monitor the situation in collaboration with the health authorities and the Ministry of Education, and will communicate any changes to the school calendar as soon as possible.

At this time, I feel it important to inform you that there have been no reported confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our school community. Please do let me know if you or someone in your immediate family is confirmed to have contracted COVID-19, as we want to be able to provide accurate information to the rest of the community. All medical information shared with me will be kept confidential.

As far as next steps are concerned, you will be invited to come to the school at a pre-arranged time next week to pick up any of your child’s belongings and to receive some work for your child to do at home. Our priority is to ensure that you are provided with tools and information to enable your child to maintain normalcy around schoolwork by continuing with their studies at home where possible.

Please consider Monday to be a day off from school for your child as faculty and staff work on planning and roll-out of distance learning for the week. You can expect another email on Monday with more details about next steps. We are grateful to our wonderful faculty, who have been proactive in considering how to best move forward, given our shared educational values.

Thank you again for your continued support, partnership, and goodwill. Please contact Principal, Lorna Fortin if you would like more information or have questions.
