Week At A Glance – June 17 – 20

Dear VWS Community,

Our children have learned, experienced, achieved and grown through the journey of this year. Teachers have given their all, leading their students through a year of exploration and learning. Student’s lives have been enriched and minds and hearts expanded through the arts, practical arts and handwork, music, drama, eurythmy, athletics, class trips, festivals, community events and more.

It has truly been another full and rewarding year and none of this could have happened without the commitment and collaboration of a community of dedicated and enthusiastic people: teachers, staff, parents, guardians and of course our students.

Thank you all for your essential part! With gratitude and best wishes for a wonderful and well-deserved summer break.

Eurythmy and Award Evening – Families and community members are warmly invited to attend this ceremony at Highlands United Church, tonight, June 17 at 7:00 pm. This ceremony recognizes and honours the achievements of our High School students while acknowledging the namesake of the Colin Dutson Award, which is “given in recognition of outstanding leadership and social responsibility in the school community.”

Colin Dutson grew up in England and immigrated to Canada where he became one of the founding teachers of the Vancouver Waldorf School in 1971. Colin was a class teacher and a French teacher for many years. He was serving as Administrator at the time of his sudden untimely departure from this life in May of 1997. He was a man of courage and conviction. His gentle demeanour and warmth towards students and colleagues alike found expression in the sincerity of his eyes and the smile he so readily shared. Heart forces truly radiated from Colin, making him a natural leader and allowing him to express and act upon his deep sense for the social good. These qualities serve as the basis for nominations submitted by the students of the High School. The final selection will be made by the High School Faculty for the Colin Dutson Award. In this fashion, the way of being that was Colin, lives on in our midst.

Year End Picnic – Join fellow families for a relaxed and unstructured picnic at Princess Park on Wednesday, June 19. Head over after dismissal at 3:00 pm to gather in the covered picnic area. Bring a snack to share, and your own dishes, beverages and utensils. All will be wrapped up by 6:00 pm. This is a “leave no trace” gathering, meaning please take out everything you bring in.

Wishing you a wonderful final week of the school year.
