Week At A Glance – May 21 – 26

Dear VWS Families,

In these last weeks of school, we begin to feel a shift in daily rhythm as focus turns toward the completion of main lesson books, class trips, concerts, and the celebrations which mark the end-of-year including Grade 8 Moving-Up, the Rose Ceremony, and High School Graduation.

The first classes to venture out for their year-end trips are Grades 5 and 8, who are away this week, leaving the big play yard a little bit quieter at recess. Grade 5 is in Hope for the regional Olympiad, a celebration of grace, truth, beauty, and skill and Grade 8 is away sailing the ocean blue on the tall ships of the SALTS program based out of Victoria.

Upcoming Events:

GRADE 12 PLAY – The Grade 12 students with director, Sylvain Munier, are presenting their play which is about two girls who “are stuck in a town where the metaphor is lost to everyone who surrounds them”. Entrance is by donation. Seating is limited and on a first come basis, so be sure to arrive early at the Kay Meek Studio Theatre, 1700 Mathers Ave, West Vancouver. The students are presenting twice, first on Friday evening at 7:00 pm then again on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

STUDENT SUPERVISION – As the weather improves and mornings are getting lighter, we have noticed a number of children arriving earlier and staying later. We would like to remind you that there is no supervision for children outside of school hours and that VWS is not responsible for children left unattended before and after the school day, with exception to children registered in the After School Program. Please consider making arrangements for suitable care should you need it. Thank you so much for helping to make the safety of our children a priority.

PLAY YARDS – We would like to remind everyone that the Early Childhood and Grade 1 and 2/3 play yards are off limits before and after school. During the school day, the big field and play structure are reserved for Grades 4 – 8 from 12:40 pm onward or when classes are using the play yard. We’ve had some near-misses at recess between ball-playing bigger kids and our little ones lately.

Looking ahead to next week, be sure to mark your calendars for Bike to School Week! Monday afternoon on May 27, we will have a visit from Max at Steed Cycle who will demonstrate how to change a tire and offer a bike safety session. The Rose Ceremony will be on Thursday, May 30. Please note that Grades 1, 6, 7, and 8 will be dismissed from Highlands United Church. Friday evening is the Beatles Dance, and Saturday is the Waldorf Family Swap/Sale. More details on each will come in the newsletter. If you’re not subscribed, please sign up here: https://vws.us14.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=67c4ee7eb9adb91bbc6ed09d1&id=e0d4bd1806
